Learning Extensions

Even while we respond to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), at Civic Leadership High School, we PERSIST: Persevere, Examine, Read Critically, Solve Problems, Investigate, Serve, Share, and Succeed Together!

In addition to the resources that CREC Central has provided, we are asking our students to do (at minimum) two things to keep their minds sharp.

  1. Keep reading!  (Keep a list or log of your reading to share with your advisors when we return to school:  see the back of this letter.)
  2. Complete math practice activities on Khan Academy at https://www.khanacademy.org/.  (This will also prepare students for the PSAT and SAT).

CREC Central is cooperating with students’ home districts and Whitson’s Food Service to provide meals for students.  Information about where to get grab-and-go meals can be found here.

Please take care of yourselves from a mental health perspective as well, taking breaks from your technology.  We have linked a resource for mental health here. Please know that we will miss you during this break, and it is important to us that you take care of yourselves and your families at this time.

Starting Monday, March 16, 2020, Comcast is offering two free months of internet service for low-income families. (Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the agreement!) More information can be found here: https://www.internetessentials.com/covid19

  • The original SAT date was March 25th; the SAT date has been moved tentatively to April 29th.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences are cancelled.

Mr. Larson, Ms Howard-Bender, and Mr. Lotreck will be available through email and via phone if you need them.  If you need immediate assistance, please call 211 or access 211ct.org for support (e.g. utility assistance, food, housing, child care, elder care, crisis intervention, etc), or contact 911 for any other emergencies.

Take good care of yourselves, and we will see you soon,

Jeff Larson, on behalf of the CLHS Staff
